Captured On Camera: Tomato Cucumber Salad Recipe

Have you tried the new(ish) app from Instagram? Hyperlapse takes videos recorded in real time and drastically (and dramatically) speeds them up. It’s supposed to give a cinematic quality to your videos.

I tried the app out a few times already, but now that I should be focusing on what I eat and how I exercise (soccer season is right around the corner), I figured it would be a good way to record the recipes I use and create, and to showcase how I make them.

I figured I would start off with one of my absolute favourite salad recipes – a tomato and cucumber salad with onion and feta. I love making this salad! Super easy and super simple (only five ingredients needed).

Watch to see how I made this salad recipe:

ingredients

dinnerplate

Tomato Cucumber Salad with Feta

2 tomatoes
1 cucumber
1/2 of a small onion
1 tablespoon of olive oil
3/4 cup of Feta

Slice and dice the cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. Mix all three into a dish and add the tablespoon of olive oil. Mix well. Breakup the feta using your hands (or a fork) and add to the bowl. Mix again and voilà! Your salad is done!

I do like to refrigerate this salad for about 15 minutes by placing it in the freezer immediately after preparing. I find that it is best served chilled. You can also add pasta to your salad as well!

Captured On Camera: Moda:ko Press Preview

Seeing how dependent people (namely me) are on their precious tech-devices, it only makes sense that we should want to protect them in the most stylish way possible right?

Last week I attended the press preview for Canadian brand Moda:ko to experience first-hand their stylish, savvy and ever-so-practical tech cases (which also double as cute clutches I might add). Available for iPads, iPad Minis and MacBooks, there were a variety of designs available to choose from. And how can you not get excited about these crazy cool prints and colours??

The Downtown Collection

Now being someone who is absolutely obsessed with bags, clutches, purses…you name it, I wanted to take them all home! But in the end I walked away with a super cute case for my iPad Mini! It even matched a blazer I had in my closet!

The Blair for iPad Mini Case matched this blazer from my own closet perfectly!

There are two different collections available from the brand, the Downtown Collection (think bold, bright prints) and the Uptown Collection (sleek, sophisticated, also with Italian leather detailing).

The Uptown Collection

The thing about the case that I especially love is that it actually feels like it is protecting my iPad. This definitely puts my mind at ease when I am putting it in my purse or tote to get going for the day.

Another great thing specifically about the Stella for iPad Mini case (from the Uptown Collection) is that it doubles as a purse, it comes with a removable metal shoulder chain.

If you’re thinking about buying a case, head to the Moda:ko site to shop the entire collection or visit Easy Tiger or Room2046 here in Toronto.

Here I am rocking the Neville for MacBook case in Black & Red:

Captured on Camera: Eurotrip Day 3 – Rome

My last full day in Rome was spent quite leisurely; which was completely fine by me!

Before I left for my trip I was told that everything that I see during the day, I must see at night as well. The only place I managed to see at night was the Colosseum. Seeing it all lit up is so worth it!

Earlier that day however, I was able to see a few more sights and places. I love Rome! I can’t wait to come back!

It should be noted that the during my time in Rome, the heat was unreal (no wonder they don’t advise tourists to visit in August). I couldn’t handle the heat. I’ll admit it. And usually when this is the case, my hair turns into a giant frizzy mess.

So why are my curls looking so nice in the Roman heat? It’s because my friends at Aveda Canada hooked me up with travel sized products from the be curly line! So thankful for that! And if you know me, you know how much I love Aveda products (*click here*).

capuchincrypt
If you plan on visiting any holy place in Italy (or in Europe for that matter), make sure that you are dressed appropriately. To go into the Capuchin Crypt, I was asked to put on a kimono which I had to purchase (it cost €2). It covered most of my arms and was knee length.
*Carry around a scarf with you just in case you decide to go into a church or crypt, don’t say I didn’t warn you!*
The Capuchin Crypt is not for the faint of heart. It is a crypt that contains the bones of almost 4,000 monks. The bones are artistically displayed and you are not permitted to take pictures while in this holy place (hence why I took a picture of the postcard I bought!).
It was one of the weirdest things that I’ve ever encountered, but very interesting as well!
spanishsteps
Can you feel the heat? I did. On the Spanish Steps. There was no way I could sit and enjoy this beautiful area without feeling like I was being cooked in the heat! There was some construction happening at the bottom of the steps anyways, so I didn’t want to stay around for very long.

After heading towards Spanish Steps (for a second time – seriously going up and down 135 steps when it’s 30+ degrees outside…too much!), it was time for lunch. At this point I was ready to sit down and stay sitting down! I also love how the cars were just casually driving past as people were eating lunch on the side street.

This is the hotel I stayed at while in Rome, Hotel Raffaello. It was a lovely hotel and situated in a convenient enough location that I could walk to major tourist points.
Did I mention that I took the metro while in Rome? I was so happy to experience another metro system other than the one at home in Toronto. The TTC has some major catching up to do…(just wait until you see my picture from Lucerne, Switzerland!).

Hello Sunshine!

Fall has to be my favourite fashion season. Chunky cable knit sweaters, boots, jackets, luxurious materials, scarves and gloves! I love it all!

Since the Fall season is right around the corner, I’m looking for pieces to update my current wardrobe and I’m obsessed with this shade of yellow (some might call it marigold?)!

Hello Sunshine!

For me it’s definitely the colour of the moment. It’s bright, cheery, and fun. It also could be the fact that we experienced a lack of summer here in Toronto. Or it could just be that I’m attracted to bright & happy colours. In any case this shade of yellow has me wanting to shop, shop, and shop some more!

Like I said before, it’s a colour that I definitely want to incorporate into my wardrobe this season! Hopefully I can find it in a sweater or a great jacket, or even a bag!

I’m also slightly obsessed with the honeycomb pattern…that’s why I drew it on the sweater!

Captured On Camera: EuroTrip Day 2 – Rome

I got an early start to the day with my only goal being to find the famous Piazza Navona, an extremely popular tourist destination that was built in 1st century AD (it was also featured in the movie Angels & Demons)!
Since I kind of, sort of, gave up on my map-reading abilities, I decided to look for landmarks to guide me along the way. Bernini’s Triton Fountain would serve as a great landmark to start my day.
Early in the morning I came across this tiny little church hidden away on a side street. I crave experiences like this, finding beautiful little secrets off the beaten path. I had no idea what was behind the wooden doors (it didn’t look like a church), but it was nice little retreat to come across.

I also discovered (well, not really discovered, but you get the point) Palazzo Barberini, a palace that was built in 1549. I still can’t comprehend that all of this was built hundreds of years ago, the pictures I took on this trip don’t do any justice to what my eyes saw. I walked around the grounds for a bit, checked out the gardens, the statue at the back of the grounds (I still don’t know the significance of the statue, but I’ll have to Google it!), and continued on to find the Triton Fountain.

I’m glad that the Romans have an evident appreciation for curly hair!

Finally, I arrived at my first destination of the day! Triton Fountain! There wasn’t anywhere to sit and enjoy the beauty of this fountain, so I stood around for a bit, took a few pictures and continued on my way.

checkmark_pantheon

Just so you know, the Pantheon was never on my travel check-list. Once I saw the Colosseum I was pretty much open to exploring the city and coming across whatever it was that I came across. When I stepped into the piazza where the Pantheon was located there was music playing, the weather was nice and it was a good excuse to sit down for a bit. So that’s exactly what I did (it’s a perfect place to people watch).
checkmark_piazzanavona
Finally made it to Piazza Navona, and spent a few hours here. I did not buy into any of the “tourist-y” activities going on (live sketches, over-priced merchandise, over-priced food), but I sat down by the fountain and just enjoyed my time spent there. There are also tons of places to eat if you head into any of the side streets leading away from the piazza. Save your money and try one of these places instead. I heard that prices can increase just for sitting on the outside of a restaurant rather than inside.

See what I did here? Let me know if you can figure it out 😉

checkmark_popolo

Ok, so here’s where I got seriously lost. I was so lost, that wherever I ended up didn’t exist on the map my hotel gave me. But it’s all about the experience right? I finally decided to ask for some help and this really nice lady gave me a metro ticket and walked me to the metro stop. This was how I found Piazza del Popolo, and from here I was able to navigate myself in the direction I actually wanted to go.

checkmark_aventine

A friend gave me the suggestion to visit this elusive location. I did have a little bit of difficulty locating it, but it was probably one of the coolest things that I came across that day. And by the way, this is actually a terrible picture.

Note: if you are heading to Aventine Hill, bring an actual DSLR if you want to capture the beautiful scene you see through the keyhole. An iPhone will not work (as you can see). That is all I’m going to say about that!

checkmark_mouthoftruth
Ok, so I lied. The famous Mouth of Truth was on my to-do list in Rome, unfortunately by time I found it (it was difficult to find), the church was closed. And I didn’t have time to come back again the next day, so a picture would have to do for now. The legend goes that if you put your hand into the mouth of the marble face and told a lie the mouth would close up. My hands are safe for now!
By the end of day two I was too tired to even look for dinner (lunch was filling enough anyways). Before I fell asleep for the night I decided that I would take it easy the following day, especially as I would be joining my Contiki trip in the evening.
