The Toronto by Nadia Lloyd Collection

Wear your heart on your sleeve? What about your city?

One Toronto-based artist is showing some serious love for her city with her latest collection.

Toronto by Nadia Lloyd” features clothing & merchandise all adorned with the city’s skyline and its famous landmark – the CN Tower.

Lloyd, a self-taught artist, who is also the creator of Toronto Art Crawl, was inspired by her surroundings and this is what led to the creation of the collection (her second in fact).

I’m also a self-taught artist, and it’s great to see when an artist devises unique and creative ways to share their art – as Lloyd did with this collection. Talk about inspiration!

“Toronto is a bold and sexy city, and there is so much to be inspired by,” says Lloyd. “I wanted to create a collection that blurs the line between art and function in a wearable, comfortable, and accessible way.”

Look for clothes like skirts, leggings, accessories like scarves, and items for your home, like pillows, duvet covers and more in the collection which launched earlier this year.

The collection is available for purchase directly from Nadia Lloyd’s site: https://nadialloyd.com/

Must-Have: The Moto Jacket

This year I have been on a mission to create a foundation-wardrobe. You know, one that focuses on “the essentials”, like the white button-up shirt, the trench, a structured bag, ballet flats … you get the point. But one style essential that I didn’t think to consider, until now, was the moto jacket.

It’s a timeless piece that can be worn for all sorts of occasions. The inspiration for my own outfit was heading out for a night on the town with my sweetie! Whatever it is you are doing, it’s a jacket that can be styled in many different ways. That’s why my girls and I – Carcia & Telly of HerCasteGirls and Aliecia Brissett – styled the moto jacket in four different ways, just to showcase the versatility of it.

This particular moto jacket, which is from Giant Tiger, and only $35 I might add, has been a sweet addition to my wardrobe! The details are fantastic and the quality is great. I can’t wait to style it with other pieces from my closet!

Scotiabank Photography Award Event: Beyond the Frame

Before I was an illustrator, I was a photographer.

Not a professional photographer mind you, it was purely for my own amusement, but it was my main artistic love. It was a way for me to capture the beauty in everything that I came across. And the sky was the limit! Whether it was the beautiful beaches of Barbados, athletes in motion (or not), food, and of course my beautiful birthplace – Toronto, I wanted to capture it all.

And after my accident, well, I didn’t feel like doing much of anything. But slowly, I have been getting back into things – blogging & photography included.

In any case, I love to see what other photographers are up to and it serves as a huge point of inspiration for me.

The other night I was invited to the Scotiabank Photography Award launch event: Beyond the Frame. The event was to celebrate the award’s three finalists, Suzy Lake, Jayce Salloum and Pascal Grandmaison. The Scotiabank Photography Award, founded in 2010, honours one mid-career photo-based artist every year. Finalists are peer-nominated and peer-reviewed and the winner of the award will be announced on May 3. To get recognition from your own peers like this is huge!

If you wanted to see the work of the three finalists yourself, head to Queen Street West and McCaul Street and look up. Seriously!

The work of the finalists is being projected directly onto the Scotiabank located there. And in the evenings until May 3, everyone in the area will be able to experience the finalists’ artwork!

So if you’re in the area tonight – don’t forget to check out this cool installation!

Trending: Different Ways to Wear Your Silk Scarf

It appears to be one of the “it” accessories of the season (perhaps year?). And I know that tons of people have been wearing them for years now.

Scarves – the accessory and essential that you need to have in your closet.

Toronto Fashion Week Street Style – Day Five

And the week-long reunion that is fashion week has come to an end! It always feels like such a whirlwind of a week!

Speaking of whirlwind…this last day was especially cold (notice my layers upon layers) and windy too! But, the show went on!

Despite the difficult weather (and I only say difficult because the wind was blowing my hair every which way – difficult if you’re trying to snap photos) I was able to capture quite a few great looks outside the tents.

Scroll on for street style shots of the last day outside the tents at Toronto Fashion Week!

I was also invited to see Greta Constantine’s 10th Anniversary show! It was amazing! After the show, we headed to the FASHION Mag Awards After Party, where Coco & Breezy were the guest DJs!
